If you still own an 'old' television, then buying a PS3 videogame console may be barely the perfect time to consider about aquiring your first one.
In the last few years TV's have got wider and leaner, but have they got better ? The cool trend is HD Television, presenting brilliant picture quality, but at a price.
Have a look on the net, or in the specialist stores and you will see a huge option of HDTV sets available. Words like plasma, rear projection and LCD are all over, and that is before you have chosen from an array of screen sizes, shapes and brands. So do you really want one now?
Could you do with an easy to understand guide to the world of HD Television, to enable you to choose for yourself if it's time to buy one.
What is HD Television, ?
Putting it simply, it's all about small dots !
Ever noticed how small fonts on your PC screen looks very vivid, but on the TV it's blurred ?
Your T.V and screen picture is constructed of dots of colour. Putting it simply, the dots on the T.V are larger than those on the screen, so the picture on the screen looks sharper

Why are HD Television dear ?
If we liken a normal 'old fashioned' Cathode Ray Tube T.V with a full HD Television, presuming they are the same size then we can see two things...
The colour dots that make up the picture need to be nine times smaller on the HD Television. This makes them very costly to make.
Also, you are paying for the cost of the R & D of these products.
Just like the PS3 they cost a lot of money to develop, but not like the PS3 the T.V companies won't get some of that cash back every time you buy a new videogame.
